MONKEY BAR, now opens in DELHI: Restaurant Review

INSPIRED BY NEW YORK, YET, UNABASHEDLY INDIAN

It’s fun, it’s quirky, it’s inspired by New York, yet, unabashedly Indian. Welcome to Monkey Bar! Monkey Bar, India’s first gastropub brand now joins New Delhi’s skyline with its promise to offer you anything but the usual! Located in the heart of south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, Monkey Bar, the Indian avatar of the Gastropub, puts its own unique spin on the internationally popular concept. It has the essence of a pub and is backed by excellent food and service, at accessible prices. Kheema Bao, dry aged and wood-fired burgers, cocktails in Nutella jars and copper tumblers, Aam panna with vodka, Galouti Killer served with pav, onions and chutney, Spiked Nachos, Sundae Sandwiches and a whole lot more awaits you! Fresh, innovative and affordable cool.

Housed in a spectacular 47 feet high glass pyramid built using a mix of steel tubes and reflective glass, Monkey Bar’s interiors evoke the feeling of being in a fun NYC space. It’s a personification of juxtapositions; exposed brick walls, soft wood floors, booths, mismatched lights and fixtures are just some of the elements that come together in this space to create a cohesive whole. The space is welcoming, intimate and quite effortlessly dramatic. Long solid wood bar counter, edgy in-built bar stools, opaque glass, concrete tables, fun posters and wall hangings give the space a distinctly 'comfy' feel, without ever seeming over-designed.
Raised areas like the bar, the stage and restaurant area with long booth seats on a mezzanine, demarcate zones successfully while providing visual interest and connect with varied levels. It would be most appropriate to say that the interior design of this gastropub is in absolute consonance with the architecture of its shell creating just the right vibe of an unmistakably ‘laid-back’ space.

Maanga...Signature drink

Monkey Bar set a benchmark for its innovative food and often-irreverent take on the concept of traditional cuisines. As important as food, design and music, the bar at Monkey Bar keeps abreast offering you trendy and affordable yet fabulous tasting cocktails. True to its service standards, the first thing bartenders are taught is the art of the genuine smile. The smiling bar churns out some super refreshing fruit cocktails, ultra chilled beer and unusual concoctions like the Mangaa, Copper Monkey, Go Guava, Mary Beer and martinis served in rock glasses. We junk all the rules here and strike off the sugary sweet concoctions – replacing them with a host of original, hugely trendy, yet, innovative drinks. It’s no longer about regular cocktails but a whole new spin where innovation and freshness are firmly at the forefront.
